Your space to pause, breathe, and talk.

At Cora Counselling, I offer a warm, person-centred space where you can explore what is happening for you, at your own pace.

The Meaning Behind Cora:

The name Cora was chosen because it reflects the heart of my practice.

It is inspired by two beautiful Irish words:

Comhrá – Conversation

Healing often begins with one meaningful conversation.

Having a safe space where you feel listened to, understood and accepted without judgement can be the first step towards healing and positive change.

Coraí – Stepping Stones

Life isn't about taking one giant leap forward. It's about taking one step at a time.

Every conversation, every insight and every act of courage becomes another stepping stone towards understanding, resilience and hope.

The Cora Counselling logo reflects this journey:

The stacked stones symbolise strength, balance and each step along your path.

The leaves represent growth, renewal and hope.

The heart reminds us that compassion, empathy and genuine human connection are at the center of every therapeutic relationship.

Counselling for adults, children, young people, and teens in Strabane, Derry, Donegal & surrounding areas.

Our counselling services

We offer a range of counselling services tailored to meet the diverse needs of individuals at different life stages. Our goal is to provide a supportive and understanding environment for everyone.

Counselling for adults

A confidential, non-judgemental space to explore whatever you may be experiencing.

Whether you're facing a particular difficulty, navigating change, or simply feel that something needs to change, counselling can provide space to slow down and make sense of what's going on.

Counselling for young people and teens

A welcoming, supportive space where children and young people can be themselves, express what they're experiencing and explore their emotions at their own pace.

I offer a space where children and young people can understand their emotions, develop emotional literacy and build a greater awareness of what they may be experiencing — without pressure to have all the answers.

Counselling doesn't always have to mean sitting and talking.

Alongside talking therapy, I use creative and age-appropriate interventions where appropriate, allowing children and young people to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences in ways that feel natural and comfortable for them. This might include creative activities, visual tools, play, journaling or other approaches that help them find ways to express what can sometimes be difficult to put into words.

I have several years of experience working as a support worker within the education system, alongside my experience as a school counsellor within the Education Authority. I have hands-on experience working with children and young people who are neurodivergent, disabled and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as young people experiencing a range of emotional and personal difficulties.

I have genuinely loved working within education. The children and young people I have had the privilege of working with have continually broadened and deepened my understanding of the different experiences, identities, backgrounds and challenges that can shape a young person's world.

My approach is person-centred, compassionate and flexible. I believe every child and young person deserves a space where they feel heard, respected and accepted for who they are.

There is no pressure to talk about anything before they're ready.

We work at their pace, in their way.

The aim isn't to tell a child or young person how they should feel.

It's to help them understand what they are feeling, find the words for it, develop emotional literacy and build confidence in navigating their emotional world.

Specialised support areas

I have undertaken additional training in safeguarding, self-harm, neurodivergence, emotional regulation, ACEs, and LGBTQIA+ affirmative practice to offer comprehensive support. Specialist training working with Children, Young people and Adolescents to support them as they navigate different stages of their lives.

Supporting children and teens to understand, express and grow.

Through counselling and wellbeing workshops, I help young people develop emotional literacy, build confidence and resilience, and find healthy ways to understand and manage their feelings.

As a counsellor and workshop wellbeing facilitator, I create safe, nurturing spaces where children and teens can explore emotions, develop self-awareness and feel heard, valued and understood.

Every step matters. You’re welcome here.

“You don't need to arrive with everything figured out. You don't need to have the right words. You just need to arrive as yourself.”

Frequently asked questions

Have questions about our services, what to expect, or how counselling works? Visit our FAQ section for answers to common queries.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to get to know one another, talk about what has brought you to counselling and explore what you would like from the sessions. There is no expectation to tell me everything straight away.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

That's completely okay. You don't need to prepare anything or know where to begin. We can start wherever feels comfortable for you.

Is everything confidential?

Confidentiality and its limits will be explained clearly at the beginning of counselling, so you know what to expect and when information may need to be shared to help keep someone safe.

Do I have to sit and talk the whole time?

No. Particularly when working with children and young people, counselling can involve creative and age-appropriate interventions alongside talking therapy. Different ways of expressing thoughts and feelings can be explored depending on the individu

What if your counselling my child? Can I stay in the room?

This can depend on the child's age, needs and circumstances. We'll discuss what feels appropriate and what will help create a safe and useful counselling space.

Will you tell me what my child talks about?

A child's privacy is an important part of building trust in counselling. At the same time, there are limits to confidentiality, particularly where there are concerns about safety or safeguarding. This will be explained clearly from the beginning.

How long is a session?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes in length.

What if I'm nervous about coming?

That's completely understandable. Starting something new can feel daunting. You don't need to know what to say, have everything figured out or even be sure that counselling is right for you.

You can simply come as you are, and we'll take it from there
